Challenge
A leading credit union faced a critical inflection point in its digital evolution. With the overwhelming majority of transactions still occurring in person across dozens of branches, the organization had historically prioritized in-branch experience over digital infrastructure — leaving it exposed to growing fraud risks, rising member expectations, and the operational strain of aging identity systems.
Members were demanding the same frictionless mobile banking experiences offered by large national banks, while regulators were raising the bar on security and compliance. Internal teams lacked the specialized IAM expertise to modernize at pace, and a fragmented digital footprint made it difficult to unify the member experience across channels. Without a centralized identity strategy, fraud prevention remained reactive rather than built-in — a risk the credit union could no longer afford.

Solution
We implemented a centralized identity foundation using Auth0 by Okta, purpose-built for the credit union’s scale, member base, and compliance requirements. The engagement covered four interconnected workstreams:
A Secure Total Experience
Single Sign-On (SSO) was deployed to unify digital and in-person services around one consistent member identity — eliminating friction at login while giving security teams full visibility across channels.
Managed Identity Services
Rather than leaving the credit union’s internal team to navigate complex IAM infrastructure alone, KeyData augmented their capabilities with dedicated Okta expertise, ongoing platform support, and proactive monitoring.
Fraud Prevention
Modern authentication methods — including adaptive MFA and bot detection — were layered into the member experience to intercept threats without adding friction for legitimate users.
Change Management
Technology is only as effective as its adoption. A structured change management program helped staff and members transition confidently, with tailored training, accessible support resources, and phased rollout planning.

Impact
With its new identity program in place, the credit union has emerged as a modern financial institution that hasn’t lost its community roots. Members log in once, move seamlessly between services, and benefit from behind-the-scenes fraud protection they never have to think about. Leadership has a unified, compliant platform that can scale with whatever comes next.
Enhanced Trust and Engagement
A frictionless digital experience strengthened member satisfaction and loyalty, while employees gained tools that made their jobs easier — not harder.
Stronger Security Posture
Adaptive authentication and modern threat mitigation significantly reduced fraud exposure, replacing a reactive security model with one that’s proactive and built-in by design.
Future-Proof Digital Environment
A modern Okta infrastructure gives the credit union a flexible foundation for future capabilities — from open banking integrations to advanced compliance workflows — without the need to re-platform again.
Cost Savings and Operational Efficiency
Managed support services reduced the burden on internal teams, freeing them to focus on member experience rather than identity maintenance.
