Challenge
The mobile-first experience was central to the vision for modern patient care through digital transformation. COVID-19 brought digital touchpoints to the forefront of the patient experience; Inception Health wanted to deliver better, safer remote health care tools that would improve this experience for users. This goal would prompt Inception to reconsider its old, fragmented approach to digital services and ultimately seek to implement a central access point to all applications.
This central access needed to occur through a digital front door to ensure a secure footprint for all patient services and replace the need for third-party app re-authorization to a network of applications tied seamlessly into backend healthcare system integrations. Without an Okta connector for the Epic Patient Portal, this would be impossible, and this connector had not yet been developed.

Solution
Inception Health came to BeyondID seeking a digital transformation partner to architect, design, deploy, and manage modern identity and access management services for patients remotely. BeyondID engineered a key Epic connector framework to allow for a secure, Okta-powered service layer within the patient portal. This breakthrough technology laid the foundation for the central access system Inception envisioned.
With the highest standard of security and identity best practices, BeyondID equipped the patient portal with identity proofing, step-up 2FA, and efficient provisioning and deprovisioning capabilities. Self-registration and SSO with single-identity architecture were implemented to improve user experience and simplify access management across the board.
